What is ECP?

An error correction procedure is when the instructor corrects an incorrect response (or no response). Such as when running a receptive identification program, the error correction would be the instructor pointing to the correct picture being presented after the learner errors or does not respond after a predetermined amount of time has elapsed (i.e., a 5 second latency). Note that, when using ECP, you are able to implement up to three ECP sequences (if applicable) before moving on to another activity. We will discuss more about this later in the module.

A very important characteristic of ECP is that no matter how many sequences you may run (1, 2, or 3) and no matter if the client end up getting the answer right, the sequence(s) are only marked on CentralReach as one data point. This data point will always be a minus or incorrect, since the client errored originally.

Example:

Instructor gives SD: “point to the truck”

Learner response: *points to the scooter*

Error Correction (Instructor Response): instructor points to the truck and says “this is truck”

Learner: *points to the truck*

Instructor: "Great job pointing at the truck, now touch truck"

Learner: *touches truck*

Instructor: "That's the truck! Now, touch your nose"

Learner: *touches nose*

Instructor: "Awesome job! Touch truck"

Leaner: *touches truck*

Instructor: "That's correct! Let's take a break and play with the ball popper!"
